Bernese Oberland
The Jungfrau Region (German: Jungfrauregion) is a region of the Bernese Oberland, at the foot of the Bernese Alps. It consists of two valleys south of Interlaken: that of Grindelwald and that of Lauterbrunnen, both drained by the Lütschine.
The Jungfraujoch boasts one of the most famous European peaks and the highest railway station on the continent (hence the phrase ‘Jungfrau’, meaning ‘Top of Europe’). The track leads through the mountains of Eiger and Mönch, up to incomparable panoramas of the surrounding peaks and the Aletsch Glacier.

The Jungfraujoch (German: lit. “maiden saddle”) is a saddle connecting two major 4000ers of the Bernese Alps: the Jungfrau and the Mönch. It lies at an elevation of 3,463 metres (11,362 ft) above sea level and is directly overlooked by the rocky prominence of the Sphinx.
For us, the Jungfrau region is the perfect meeting place for a weekend. We love the mountains, and the view here of the Jungfraujoch is simply fantastic. I can hardly believe we are on the roof of Europe.
The Jungfrau Railway ( German: Jungfraubahn, JB) is a mountain railway in the Bernese Alps, connecting Kleine Scheidegg in the Bernese Oberland to the Jungfraujoch, across the Valais border.
The Jungfraujoch is an alpine attraction and viewing point, at an altitude of 3454 m. It is located in between the well known mountains Mönch and Jungfrau, in the heart of the UNESCO Natural World Heritage property “Jungfrau – Aletsch – Bietschhorn”.
