14 August 1893: World’s first driving licences introduced.
Elinor Smith became the youngest licensed pilot to date in the U.S. at the age of 16. In 1930, she became the youngest pilot, male or female, granted a transport license by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
In the US, the usual age to get a full driver’s license in the 60s-90s used to be 16. You could get a learner’s permit at 15 years and 9 months (15 and 6 months if you were in driver’s ed in high school) which meant you had to have a licensed driver with at all times.
The Queen is the only person in the country who is allowed to drive without a licence.
The first driver’s licenses were issued in 1903 by Massachusetts and Missouri. These required no examinations of driving skills and were little more than identification cards.
Ransome-Kuti
Ransome-Kuti was the first woman in Abeokuta to drive a car. Ransome-Kuti and her husband had four children: a daughter named Dolupo (1926) and sons Olikoye (1927), Olufela “Fela” (1938), and Bekolari “Beko” (1940).

From the mid-1920s through the early ’30s, the issue came up whenever the Texas legislature met but was never passed. What had long been referred to as the “contemplated driver’s license bill” finally passed both houses and was signed Nov. 15, 1935, by Gov. James V. Allred.
