Denver rec centers and outdoor pools reopening, programs resuming. Weight room and cardio spaces will also begin opening. DENVER — Denver recreation centers and outdoor pools will be reopening beginning June 7, Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) said on Thursday.
Swimming pools are often considered a negative amenity in the Denver metro area. Our season isn’t long enough to warrant pool maintenance for just a few months. Year round maintenance is very expensive. Pools take up a lot of space.
The pools will open July 1 and close Aug. 9, the week they close during typical seasons. But they will have extended hours each day: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The half-hour gap will be used to clean the facilities.
But, perceptions notwithstanding, many residents of Denver, Colorado Springs, and other parts of the state have found that building a backyard swimming pool can be a worthwhile investment. In fact, the swimming season makes a nice complement to the ski season for those who crave year-round outdoor recreation.
Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) will implement a phased reopening of recreation centers, pools, registered programs and other activities throughout the spring, summer and fall of 2021.

As a result of Governor Kemp’s Executive Order from May 12, 2020, seasonal pools are allowed to open if they have received a passing inspection from the health department and have implemented measures which mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
For the safety of children, please note that children 6 years and under, must be supervised and within arms reach, in the water, by a guardian 18 years or older. Swim lessons are taught year-round at Utah Indoor Pool, Beck Indoor Pool, Central Indoor Pool, Moorhead Indoor Pool and seasonally at Aurora’s outdoor pools.
The Highlands Ranch Community Association will begin a phased-in approach. Lap swimming may be allowed as soon as next week, depending on guidelines with open swimming sessions likely starting in July.
