A third son, Seth, is born to Adam and Eve, and Adam had “other sons and daughters” (Genesis 5:4). Genesis 5 lists Adam’s descendants from Seth to Noah with their ages at the birth of their first sons and their ages at death. Adam’s age at death is given as 930 years.
Jared
Additionally, Jared was a forefather of Noah and his three sons. Jared’s age was given as 962 years old when he died, making him the second-oldest person mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint.
Enoch
Methuselah/Fathers
Methuselah
According to the chronology of the Bible, Methuselah died one week before the Great flood; He was also the oldest of all the figures mentioned in the Bible. Methuselah is mentioned once in the Hebrew Bible outside of Genesis; in 1 Chronicles 1:3, he is mentioned in a genealogy of Saul.
Genesis 5, the Book of the Generations of Adam, lists the descendants of Adam from Seth to Noah with their ages at the birth of their first sons (except Adam himself, for whom his age at the birth of Seth, his third son, is given) and their ages at death (Adam lives 930 years).
The Hebrew year, or “shanah,” was thus made up of 12 lunar months, but since the month, from new moon to new moon, was only 293/~ days, the lunar year contained only 354 days, and some sort of intercalation was necessary to bring it into line with the solar year of 3653~ days.
Genesis 5:27 tells us that he lived to be 969 years old! The meaning of Methuselah is uncertain. Commentators have explained it variously as “man of military weapons,” “man of sending forth,” or “man of growth.” Methuselah was Enoch’s son (Genesis 5:22).
Jared is the second oldest man in the Bible and is a sixth-generation descendant of Adam and Eve. His father was Mahalalel and although he had other sons and daughters, only one of them, Enoch, is named in the Bible, which makes Jared the grandfather of Methuselah. Jared was 162 years old when Enoch was born and he lived to be 962 years old.
Although several people lived to be over 400 years old after the Flood ( Genesis 11:10-24 ), gradually the maximum human lifespan went down to about 120 years. The Fall of Man and the subsequent sin introduced into the world corrupted every aspect of the planet.
Enoch walked with God at age 365. Bible scholars offer a number of theories as to why Methuselah lived so long. One is that the pre-Flood patriarchs were only a few generations removed from Adam and Eve, a genetically perfect couple. They would have had unusually strong immunity from disease and life-threatening conditions.
