For more articles, see here. Anyone who lives in Texas knows Hurricane Harvey. Harvey, which made landfall in southern Texas on August 25, 2017, was the last major hurricane (Category 3 storm or above) to hit the Lone Star State.
The most active month is September, with 21 total storms, while no recorded storms have affected Texas during the months of December through May.
Major Texas Hurricanes. The Galveston hurricane of 1900, a Category 4 storm, was the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history, bringing a 15-foot storm surge and winds of more than 135 mph. The hurricane killed between 6,000 and 12,000 and brought damages totaling about $881 million in 2017 dollars.43.
October 4, 1996 – Tropical Storm Josephine forms just offshore of the Texas coast, bringing heavy rain to the state. Rainfall peaks at 10.81 in (275 mm) in Brownsville. The storm, although remaining offshore, causes severe beach erosion across much of the coast.

On Thursday August 24 th, Harvey’s impact on the Middle and Upper Texas Coast seemed almost certain and potentially devastating. Not only was Harvey forecast to become a hurricane by Thursday evening, but it was expected to strengthen and make landfall as a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) on Friday (see forecast ).
