Outer Banks Towns & Villages
The Outer Banks (frequently abbreviated OBX) are a 200-mile (320 km) string of barrier islands and spits off the coast of North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, on the east coast of the United States.
Kill Devil Hills
Centrally located on the Outer Banks and filled with shops, restaurants, and activities for the whole family Kill Devil Hills is the town for you if you love staying busy and taking in as much of the local area as possible.
It’s a group of islands located in North Carolina that are a pretty popular destination for surfing and just hanging out by the beach over the summer. Twins Jonas and Josh Pate, who are co-creators of the show, grew up in North Carolina, so its possible that some of the show is taken from their own experiences visiting the islands.
While the show only takes place between two sections of Kildare Island, The Cut and Figure 8, these are actually not real places in the real OBX. According to the Wilmington Star News, a local North Carolina newspaper, Kildare Island is “a hat tip to the real town of Kill Devil Hills in Dare County on the Outer Banks.”
However, in real life, it’s actually its own island instead of being a part of Kildare Island on the show. “Figure Eight is a wealthy island off Northern New Hanover County that features an eye-popping array of million-dollar-plus homes,” according to Wilmington Star News.
According to the Wilmington Star News, a local North Carolina newspaper, Kildare Island is “a hat tip to the real town of Kill Devil Hills in Dare County on the Outer Banks.” Meanwhile, The Cut is “a reference to Snow’s Cut, the man-made waterway completed in 1929 that effectively turned Carolina Beach into a barrier island.”
