On the whole, DeKalb County is a dry county in terms of alcohol sales and consumption. In 2005, the city of Fort Payne passed a law to authorize the legal sale of alcohol. Collinsville and Henagar later also allowed alcohol sales.
Today, there are 83 counties in the United States where the sale of alcohol is completely prohibited. Dry counties are home to approximately 1.7 million Americans, or 0.5% of the U.S. population. In many states with dry counties, laws restricting the sale of alcohol have long preceded national prohibition.
Alabama’s last totally dry county is going wet. Residents in the Clay County cities of Ashland and Lineville voted Tuesday to legalize alcohol sales.
Gatlinburg is not a dry town. Alcohol is sold in the bars, restaurants, and in stores. Pigeon Forge is considered ‘dry’ meaning no bars, and the restaurants can only sell beer, and wine. No hard liquor.
Figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that people in the state’s dry counties had a fatality rate in alcohol-related accidents of 6.8 per 10,000 people over five years, which was more than three times higher than the rate in the state’s wet counties: 1.9 per 10,000 people.

Wyoming state law provides that each local jurisdiction’s liquor board must allow liquor licenses. Of the 67 counties in Alabama, 3 are completely dry, 23 are partially dry or “moist” (these counties contain cities that have voted to allow alcohol sales), and 41 are completely wet.
Kentucky. Fifty-five are completely dry. Thirty are wet. In addition, the remaining 35 counties are ‘moist.” That is, they fall somewhere between. Certain counties allow the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink on golf courses located in dry counties. Some wineries legally operate within dry counties.
